This Week in WoW – Class Tuning, Covenant Campaign Finale, and Torghast Event (January 12th, 2021)

Welcome to the first installment of “This Week in WoW!” We’ll be giving you a rundown of all the things you’ll need to know for the week, including information about class buff and patch notes, unlocking your covenant campaign finale, the new Torghast event, and more!

Class Tuning

Blizzard has done a pass of class tuning to provide a much-needed boost to some underperforming classes and specs. Frost Mage, Assassination Rogue, and Fury Warrior players rejoice in relatively large boosts to their damage. These three specs are currently at the bottom of the DPS rankings for Castle Nathria, so hopefully, these targeted boosts will help bring them on par with some of the mid-ranking DPS specs.

Other classes received more minor tuning passes adjusting two-handed weapon damage and other small tweaks.

Renown Cap Increased to 24

This week, the renown cap has increased to 24 unlocking several new things, including the final chapter of your covenant campaign, an upgrade for your soulkeeper, a mount, and an increase to the item level of unrated PvP honor gear.

Final Covenant Campaign Chapter Unlocked

At Renown 22, you’ll be able to unlock the final chapter of your Covenant Campaign story until the currently unannounced 9.1 patch of Shadowlands is released.

Soulkeeper Upgrade

At Renown 24, you unlock a massive upgrade to the Soulkeeper, allowing you to collect 15 souls from the Maw each week. This is a huge boost if you’re behind on upgrades for your Covenant sanctum and you need more souls.

Mount Unlocked

The first renown mount unlocks at Renown 23. You’ll be able to purchase it from your Covenant’s Renown Quartermaster for 5,000 anima.

  • Kyrian: Phalynx of Purity
  • Necrolord: Plaguerot Tauralus
  • Night Fae: Shadeleaf Runestag
  • Venthyr: Sinfall Gargon

At Renown 39 you’ll unlock upgraded versions of these mounts as well.

Unrated PvP Item Level Upgrade

Another unlock at Renown 22 is the ability to upgrade your unrated PvP honor gear to Rank 7. Rank 7 PvP honor gear is ilvl 197, just below what drops from Normal Castle Nathria.

Beasts of Prodigum Torghast Event

This week, there’s a special even in Torghast: the Beasts of Prodigum Event. During your Torghast runs, you’ll be able to select a Maw Beast instead of an anima power at the start, giving you bonuses and aiding you in battle. (If you don’t want to participate in the event, select a normal power.)

Throughout the run, you’ll also have the option of selecting anima powers that upgrade your Maw Beast.

World Quest Bonus Event

This week’s rotation of activities includes the World Quest Bonus Event. You’ll get the Sign of the Emissary Buff that provides 50% bonus Reputation from completing world quests. This applies to both Shadowlands world quests and world quests back on Azeroth for Legion and Battle for Azeroth factions.

Before you head out to do your world quests though, be sure to stop by Caretaker Kah-Toll next to the Great Vault in Oribos (coordinates 64.95, 32.68) to pick up your Weekend Event quest, The World Awaits. Completing 20 world quests and then handing in The World Awaits will grant you 500 reputation with the Shadowlands faction of your choice and 750 Anima, which will definitely help you complete your weekly Anima Covenant quest. (Combine this with defeating this week’s World Boss, and you’ll be at 1,000 Anima!)

Mythic Plus Affixes – Tyrannical, Raging, Explosive, Prideful

The affixes for Mythic Plus dungeons this week are Tyranical, Raging, Explosive, and the seasonal affix, Prideful.

Key LevelAffixAffix Effect
2+TyrannicalBosses have 40% more health. Bosses and their minions inflict up to 15% increased damage.
4+RagingNon-boss enemies enrage at 30% health remaining, dealing 100% increased damage until defeated.
7+ExplosiveWhile in combat, enemies periodically summon Explosive Orbs that will detonate if not destroyed.
10+PridefulPlayers overflow with pride as they defeat non-boss enemies, eventually forming a Manifestation of Pride. Defeating this Manifestation greatly empowers players.

Shadowlands World Boss – Oranomonos the Everbranching

The Shadowlands World Boss this week is Oranomonos the Everbranching. You’ll find him over in Tirna Scithe (the area in Ardenweald not the Dungeon). Defeating him will give you 250 Anima and a chance at loot drops, so it’s definitely worth stopping over there and completing the World Quest.

All Hotfix Notes

There were a couple of other tweaks, bug fixes, and changes, so be sure to read over the full Hotfix notes below!
